(September, 2007) In the recent 10th Anniversary Issue of Aquaponics Journal, the editor highlighted “10 Great Examples of Aquaponics in Education.” Tunstall High School of Dry Fork, Virginia was among the schools featured. Utilizing a 20’ x 30’ greenhouse for a lab where the plants and fish grow, students study five specific areas: aquaculture, advanced plant science, hydroponics, biotechnology, and environmental impact of aquaponics. Individual lab sessions address topics such as photosynthesis, genetics, tissue culture, plant anatomy, plant and animal reproduction, the nitrogen cycle and water quality.
